12th International Disability Law Summer School

Galway, Ireland

The Centre for Disability Law and Policy are delighted to announce that the 12th International Disability Law Summer School will take place from Monday 15– 19 June 2020 in Galway.

This year the focus will be on ‘Participation in Cultural Life, Recreation, Leisure and Sport for People with Disabilities”.

While there is a growing understanding of the importance of access to culture, recreation and sport for people with disabilities, this is rarely carried out using the rights-based approach as found in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Summer School will provide an introduction to international human rights law and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the nature of State obligations, methods of treaty interpretation, the substantive rights, monitoring, complaints procedure and the role of the Committee). This includes Article 30 (Cultural Life) – one of the less explored articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
