1. The Italian Union of the Blind, a Italian non-for-profit organisation of social utility, announces a competition for blind and partially sighted music composers who are citizens of European countries. To the aims of this competition, partially sighted are those whose residual vision is not more than 2/10 in both eyes even with lenses, and those whose residual binocular field of vision is less than 50 per cent.
2. The competition will award chamber music compositions for one or more instruments, with possible solo voice or for choir, lasting no more than 10 minutes, which must be unpublished and unperformed in public.
3. Applicants can send in no more than three works which shall not have been awarded a prize in other competitions.
4. Applicants must directly deliver or send by registered post with advice of delivery, or equivalent postal medium, three fully legible copies of each score in an envelope with only "Concorso musicale" written on it. No indications should allow to identify the author, under penalty of being excluded from the competition. Each score will have a distinguishing motto written on it, which will be also written on a second sealed envelope containing the application to the competition. The application must be signed and dated and has to include the following details :
a) Name and surname
b) Date and place of birth
c) Address where to receive information concerning the competition, telephone number and possible e-mail address
d) Curriculum vitae
e) Authorization to perform and make the work(s) known, if it/they is/are awarded a prize in the present competition
f) Compliance with the participation criteria under item 1
g) The title of the submitted composition(s)
h) Acceptance to comply with all the present rules
i) Authorization to use personal data for purposes exclusively linked to the competition and in compliance with the legislation in force
5. The envelope with the score(s) and all relevant material under item 4 above must reach Unione Italiana Ciechi, via Borgognona 38, 00187 Rome, Italy, by 31 October 2004.
6. The prize for the winning work is 2,500 Euros.
7. The competition jury board, whose decisions are final, will be made up of four members with proved competence in the music field, appointed by the national Board of the Italian Union of the Blind, and the President of the Italian Union of the Blind or his delegate, who will chair the jury board. The jury board proceedings will be unquestionable. The jury board reserves the right not to award the prize or divide it, providing relevant adequate explanations.
8. By applying for this competition, applicants accept to comply with the present rules and transfer to the Italian Union of the Blind any rights to perform the submitted composition, provided that it is performed during free-of-charge events.
9. Upon announcement of the winning composition, the winner must provide documents proving the compliance with the criteria to take part in the competition.
10. In case of any doubt or misunderstanding, the Italian version of these rules applies.
