Job Description

Laurence has been working as in the statistic department of the National Health Insurance for 15 years. She conducts surveys and builds up statistical databases for the health insurance agents. Recently, she has taken over the leadership of a group of 4 employees.

Getting the job

After her graduation as a business statistician, Laurence taught at university in Guadeloupe. She then came back to Paris where she found her current job.

Adjustments

An assistant student helps her with the reading and writing of documents and publications. A computer with Braille output gives her access to internet and email. It also allows her to learn to use new software together with sighted colleagues. She uses a scanner to read simple documents.

The earlier and better blind people learn to use the computer, the better. It gives you access to important mathematic works and written documents and will make the profession of statistician more accessible
