Job Title
Sales Promoter
Job Description
Miles is self-employed and works from home, contacting various dormant and
potential metal industry based businesses in order to promote his client's
products and services. Once he has secured interest, he passes on the details to
his clients who follow up the sale.
Getting the job
After many years of working within the sales field, Miles was made redundant
from his office job. A friend recommended that he became self-employed. He
obtained the necessary technology, registered his business and was up and
running with his existing contacts.
Adjustments
As Miles works from home, he has been able to avoid many access issues including
that of transport and mobility around the workplace, which could arise due to
his blindness. Miles has a scanner, screen-reading software and an accessible
telephone in order to complete the necessary tasks of his role.
Quote
"The job is ideal for me. My clients rarely know about my visual
impairment, as we only meet on the phone, and I produce results. I don't know
why more people don't do it!"
