Israel - Theatres

In mid-July a new project was launched under the auspices of THE CENTER FOR THE BLIND IN ISRAEL.  Under this project, a variety of auxiliary aids have been placed in a number of theatres throughout Israel, from the north to the south, allowing the low-vision community to view theatrical events with clearer and sharper vision.

At each of the ten chosen theatres, a volunteer is available to hand out on loan the most suitable aid at no cost whatsoever on the condition that it is returned after the performance. Anyone with low-vision is entitled to make use of this service, even those who have no official Blind Registration Card.

The auxiliary aids available are Monoculars, Binoculars and the Sightscope, making a total of sixteen at each theatre.

Theatres receiving this service are situated in Nazareth, Haifa, Netanya, three theatres in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, BeerSheva, Kiryat Gat and Nes Ziona.  This is a completely new project and positive feedback is being received from theatre goers ,who in the past experienced difficulty in enjoying plays, musical performances, ballet, etc.
