Poland - Marrakesh Treaty ratification Campaigning.

The Polish Association of the Blind (PZN) together with the Collections for the Blind Department run by the Central Library for Labor and Social Security (GBPiZS) joined the international campaign of the World Blind Union advocating ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty. The World Book and Copyright Day appeared to be an excellent opportunity to discuss the equal access to literature for the visually impaired. Blind people inaugurated the European Night of Literature in Wroclaw- which has the title of UNESCO World Book Capital for 2016.

On the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death excellent Braille readers from Warsaw and Wroclaw read excerpts of Shakespeare's play “The Taming of the Shrew”. The audience admired their brave interpretations and applauded in return. Anna Wozniak-Szymanska, President of the Polish Association of the Blind addressed the public and asked them to support the campaign for ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty. A special leaflet informing about the main issues of the Marrakesh Treaty and the problem of book famine experienced by people with the visual impairment had been prepared for the event. It was distributed among visitors and made available at the information centre and in a pressroom of Wroclaw European Capital of Culture. Visitors also received the Braille alphabet, films with an audiodescription and CDs recorded at PZN. They could also have their names written in Braille.
