Sport and disability: an ERASMUS+ youth exchange to draft the Manifesto for accessible and inclusive sports

In September 2016, the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted ran an ERASMUS+ exchange for sighted and visually impaired youths with participants from Cyprus, Finland and Italy. Participants had the opportunity to experience, through the knowledge and practice of specific and adapted sports for the visually impaired, the value of sharing, solidarity and personal commitment in society. As a result of the project young participants drafted a "Manifesto on the accessibility of sport and sport facilities".

The "Manifesto on the accessibility of sport and sport facilities" can be downloaded in English at:  http://www.uiciechi.it/AttivitaInternazionali/manifestoen.doc  and in Italian at: http://www.uiciechi.it/AttivitaInternazionali/manifesto.doc. We hope that it can be used to raise awareness of public authorities, educational institutions and individuals about the importance of sport accessibility, not only for people with disabilities, but for all citizens.

The Facebook page "Sport Ability: fun, solidarity and participation" dedicated to accessible sports was recently launched. It will need your support to become a living instrument for exchange of information and networking for people with disabilities and associations dealing with accessible sport at national and international level.
