Slovenia – Summer Camp

Some 45 blind and partially sighted persons of Slovenia and their guides gathered in the summer camp at the end of July. The camp was organised by Karitas, the charity organisation of the Ljubljana archdiocese in the north eastern part of Slovenia, in the village of Skomarje. This was the 27th summer camp dedicated to spiritual and recreational activities, which help blind and partially sighted persons to face the difficulties of blindness and low vision.

The program offered a variety of different activities that included visits of cultural monuments in the region, among them the famous chartreuse of Žiče and also some important enterprises, which are present in the global market, like GKN driveline Slovenia. The recreational activities took the participants to the spa of Zreče for swimming and wellness activities and they also visited the Castle of Trebnik, a well-known tourist spot.

Sport activities like summer sledging, a showdown tournament and Nordic walking were also an important part of the program, that included many spiritual events like meditation, morning prayer and holy mass given by a new priest Bernard Rožman.

Also exciting was meeting a violin maker, a local eco-farmer with more than 240 cows and a man who collects ant eggs. We shouldn't forget the evening musical events in the camp offered by two blind musicians of Duo Maestral. The camp was really a success, the only mistake was, that it only lasted for one week.
