Belgium - March: A big moment for the Brailleliga/Ligue Braille!

Last month the Brailleliga/Ligue Braille organized a campaign to promote their free services for blind and partially sighted people in Belgium.

With advertisements on TV and radio, posters, flyers and events, they reached the general public so that people could understand more about their day to day work. Organizations are often known as names but not as people, objectives and beautiful stories to tell. So this year the Brailleliga/Ligue Braille decided to put their different services in the spotlight: job coaching, safety locomotion teaching, safety cooking lessons, typewriting, braille, adapted leisure activities, etc.

The campaign was largely covered by the press. Multiple press stories showed testimonies from blind and partially sighted people helped by the Brailleliga/Ligue Braille.

On several markets in Belgium passers-by could also experience what it means to be blind and to shop without being able to see. They were invited to try and recognize fruits and vegetables by touching and then to pay for them – a wallet filled with different coins and notes was available at the booth. This way, they learned that every piece of money was different and that it was possible to shop even being blind or partially sighted. Of course, to be able to do that, they understood that it was necessary to have some lessons and some help, which is the exact job of the Brailleliga/Ligue Braille!

In short, this campaign was a success. The Brailleliga/Ligue Braille now hopes to help more and more people become well aware of what they can expect from its free services.
