Deafblind persons
As deafblindness is a specific disability, the European Deafblind Union (EDBU) is the qualified organization representing their unique needs.
EBU and EDBU work closely together and have representatives in both Unions. And EBU has established a special steering group on deafblindness to ensure that deafblind issues are also taken onboard in our policies.
Deafblindness is a condition that combines in varying degrees both hearing and sight loss. Two sensory impairments multiply and intensify the impact of each other, creating a severe disability with a high risk of isolation and exclusion. Deafblindness is different and therefore requires specific actions and solutions.EBU and EDBU organised a conference in 2008 on Equality and Diversity.
