Marrakesh Treaty

In late August the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), jointly with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL), published a guide ‘Getting Started - Implementing the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities’.

Edited with the support of the World Blind Union, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries and the University of Toronto, it is a practical guide for librarians with answers to their frequently asked questions, which aims to involve the largest possible number of libraries.

Adaptable by national actors to their own national laws, this guide comes particularly useful to EBU members outside the European Union and the European Economic Area, to help them convince their governments to ratify the Treaty with a sound vision of how to best implement it.

The guide is available for download from the IFLA website in English (Word format) or PDF; in French (Word) or PDF ; and in Spanish (Word) or PDF. It is also available in Russian (PDF only) from the EIFL website.

Incidentally, some news from the EU: on the basis of the information received from the Member States during the summer, experts at the Commission are optimistic that the vast majority of countries will have transposed the directive in their national legislation within the 11 October deadline, and that the EU will be able to ratify the Treaty well before the end of this year.
