Portugal - “A true independent vote is an informed vote”

In 2019, Portugal will have three electoral acts, in two of which Portuguese citizens with visual impairment will, for the first time, be able to vote autonomously and secretly, thanks to the creation of a Braille voting stencil. However, ACAPO argues that "a true independent vote is an informed vote". That is why, this year, on World Braille Day, the Portuguese institution called on all political parties to make electoral campaigns more inclusive, ensuring that their messages reach everyone. Tomé Coelho, President of the National Board of ACAPO, says that "communicating with people with visual impairment simply requires willingness, and in most cases, there are no significant additional costs." "Braille is one of the ways there is to widen the audience of our message but there's more! Do we think that it is the intention of any political party to reach more people, or not? ", Asks the President of ACAPO. To this end, ACAPO has made available on its website a set of recommendations (only in Portuguese), directed to Political Parties, which helps them to make their messages more accessible to visually impaired citizens.
