France - « Marius » of audio description 2019

For the second successive year, the CFPSAA (French member of EBU) celebrated audio description and film making.

As was initiated last year, a jury composed by blind people selected the best audio description from amongst seven movies.

The idea for this event is to take the same movies as those competing for the ceremony of the “Cesar”, the French movie night equivalent of the Oscars! We want to draw the attention of film professionals to audio description. In so doing we want to get more audio description with ever-improving quality.

The CNC (National Cinéma Center) support us for this cultural event. The award ceremony took place in the projection room of CNC and, as for the first edition, there was a lot of emotion. In front of many professionals, we awarded the prize to “Pupille”, a movie by Jeanne Herry and Dune Cherville, the audiodescriptrice received the trophy.

On a positive note: the press has begun to take an interest in this event and the topic.

Now, we would like our award to be integrated in the official French ceremony, in the technical category. But it’s far from being a done deal!

However, while waiting for this moment, we are satisfied to raise awareness of the world of cinema for blind people and to advance the cause of audio description.
