Unlocking our potential: EBU invites you to its inclusive workplaces for visually impaired people webinar

Online

From prejudice to unwillingness to accommodate the workplace, blind and partially sighted people face so many daily barriers that deprive them of enjoying their right to work on an equal basis with others. This scenario represents an obstacle to full implementation of article 27 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

However, with the right support and provision of reasonable accommodation, persons with visual impairment can be as efficient as their sighted colleagues.

On 20th May, from 10:00 to 12:00 CEST, the European Blind Union will host its “Unlock our potential: creating inclusive workplaces for blind and partially sighted people” webinar.

Through this session, you will learn more about the daily challenges that visually impaired people face when accessing the labour market, as well as hear from success stories of blind and partially sighted persons who have managed to overcome them. As disability advocates, we want to share with you the different ways through which we can create more inclusive working environments. While addressing recruiting agencies and employers, we also want to call visually impaired employees so they can learn more about how they can be empowered in this domain.

This is the agenda:

  1. Introduction and housekeeping rules [2 minutes]
  2. Our community’s main challenges: how can we bring these barriers down? [Anja Ursic, EBU’s Board Member] [15 minutes]
  3. Disaggregating data: a valuable tool for raising awareness (Beatriz Bastião, Project Technical Officer on Gender equality and Disability inclusion at ILO) [15 minutes].
  4. The benefits of hiring a visually impaired person (Nacho Lopez, EBU’s External Communication Officer) [10 minutes].
  5. Coffee break [10 minutes]
  6. Success stories: believe in your potential! (testimonials of blind and partially sighted people) [30 minutes]
  7. Share your experience: Q&A session. [30 minutes]
  8. Concluding remarks. [2 minutes]
