Goodbye EBU from Gary May

Dear EBU friends and members,

On the 31 March 2026 I will be retiring. After 16 years at EBU there are many memories and equally many changes have occurred, four Presidents and as many General Assemblies, two Executive Directors, three versions of the website, even moving our offices to a new address and doubling the size of the EBU staff!

I know many of you personally and have enjoyed our many encounters, both online and in person. From my time at EBU I have learned a great deal, on a purely professional level, new skills and techniques, but also on a more personal note. The most important of these being the need to see the potential in people, not the limitations, and this is something which I will always carry with me.

So, I take this opportunity to thank the EBU board for their continued support, and to all of you within the EBU community for such an enriching collaboration. This is also an opportunity to thank my excellent colleagues in the EBU office for being able to work in such a stimulating environment, and for many good times. I will miss them, but will certainly be in touch! A final word to Lars, who took over from Mokrane (and I take the opportunity to thank him too) at a difficult time, right at the start of the COVID lockdowns and has become not just an excellent Director, but also a friend, and I thank him for creating a climate of confidence and a positive, friendly atmosphere.

I wish EBU as an organisation all the best, keep up the good work, and I wish you all health, happiness and success in your personal and professional lives.

Gary MAY
