Full gender equality cannot be reached without properly implemented inclusion.
On International Women Day, the European Blind Union launched its new awareness-raising video “Bring down the barriers: a call for gender equality”. A facts-based production conceived by bearing in mind some statistics collected by the European Institute for Gender Equality through its 2024 Gender Equality Index, it covers, among others, the main obstacles that women with disabilities face in domains such as access to the labour market or balancing professional and personal lives.
To give the audience a better insight on this subject, our organisation used the testimonials of our President, Tytti Matsinen; Esma Gumberidze, a young blind woman from Georgia; and Victoria Harrison, the UK’s Ambassador for Slovenia. From facing prejudice to struggle to find a way to balance their personal lives with professional duties, they give us a set of powerful lived experiences that conclude with a powerful message: don’t sit without doing nothing, believe in your potential to bring positive change.
If you wish to watch the video, you will find it in English, French, German and Spanish on our YouTube channel. Captions are available for each language version.
