The European Blind Union (EBU), through the work of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC), is currently preparing a draft EBU Code of Conduct aimed at strengthening a respectful, inclusive, accessible and collaborative environment across all EBU activities and structures.
The initiative reflects EBU’s ongoing commitment to human rights, equal participation, accessibility, diversity and meaningful involvement of blind and partially sighted persons in all areas of organisational life.
The draft Code is intended to provide a shared framework of values and principles for everyone involved in EBU activities, including members, staff, volunteers, committee representatives, event participants and partners.
Among other areas, the document highlights:
- respectful and constructive communication,
- inclusion and accessibility,
- equal participation,
- ethical and responsible behaviour,
- cooperation and mutual support,
- awareness of diversity and individual needs.
Particular attention is given to creating accessible and welcoming environments in both online and in-person activities, ensuring that blind and partially sighted persons can participate fully and equally.
The Code is also intended to support positive organisational culture, strengthen cooperation within EBU structures and encourage shared responsibility for maintaining safe, respectful and inclusive spaces for everyone involved.
The DEIC believes that this initiative represents an important step towards further strengthening inclusion, trust and collaboration within the European Blind Union.
Further discussions and consultations on the draft are expected within EBU structures in the coming months.
